Shannon is a Certified Professional Midwife, Licensed Midwife, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. From Senegal to San Francisco, Shannon has provided midwifery care to a spectacular array of women in all settings from clinics to kitchens. Shannon’s three children were all born at home with midwives in attendance. She received her midwifery degree from the National Midwifery Institute and her license from the California Medical Board in 2008. She passed her lactation boards in 2010.
In order to serve her families and deepen her understanding of alternative health Shannon has taken classes and trainings from the Weston A. Price Foundation, Holistic Pediatric Association, Suzanne Colson at Biological Nurturing, and is currently enrolled in Aviva Romm’s Herbal Medicine for Women Distance Training Program.
Most of her training comes from raising her three kids, birthing them, cooking for them, and enjoying them!
Having delivered two previous daughters in a hospital, certainly I already experienced pregnancy, labor, and delivery before. By chance, or perhaps luck, I learned of Shannon’s services when I was pregnant with my third child. I was hesitant at first, considering I would be the first one from my family to have a home birth. After deep consideration, I decided it was what I wanted to do.
When it came down to labor and delivery, there are no words to describe how soothing it was to be in the comfort and safety of my home. I did not feel any pressure to perform. I was tended to and cared for. Shannon’s gentle touch and kind voice kept me calm through the entire process. The emotion in my room upon delivery of my daughter was earth shattering exhilaration. I just delivered my baby at home surrounded only by people I knew, loved, and trusted! While it was my most difficult labor and delivery, it was thus far, the most rewarding birthing experience. I finally felt like I was truly involved and that I had accomplished something.
I never thought I would look at a new baby and long to experience birth again. Having two home births opened my eyes to how beautiful and incredible the process is meant to be. If it were not for Shannon’s care and services, I would have missed out on the beauty behind birth.
Shannon guided me through a nerve-wracking end to my second pregnancy where I was having a lot of bleeding. On top of that, I didn’t go into labor until 16 days past my due date! Without her advocacy and faith, I most certainly would have had a c-section. She remained calm and talked me through my options, helping me have faith in my body’s ability to carry and birth my baby. I ended up having the home birth I wanted and a perfectly healthy daughter. Two years later we had another home birth with Shannon for our third child! Her depth of knowledge and calming presence was invaluable from our prenatal appointments to the labor and through our post-partum visits.
